Hayley Williams – Paramore
The quintessential emo pin-up girl, Hayley Williams is a firm favourite in the ‘scene’. Still fronting the increasingly popular Paramore and with no plans to go solo, hopefully we’ll be seeing much more of Williams in 2010.
Maria Brink – In This Moment
In This Moment’s lead singer Maria Brink only ever seems to appear dressed as Little Bow Peep, and no that’s certainly not a complaint! The relatively well endowed rocker is planning to head back to the studio this February with the band to bring us the follow up to 2008’s The Dream.
Karin Axelsson – Sonic Syndicate
Proving (along with Lyn-Z) that you don’t have to be the lead vocalist to be the eye candy in a band, Sonic Syndicate’s Karin Axelsson combines bass skills with stunning good looks. In a band not short on attractive members, being the only woman probably helps… With their new album, featuring new vocalist Nathan Biggs, in pre-production, the band are hoping for a March/April release.
Lyn-Z – Mindless Self Indulgence
Mindless Self Indulgence’s Lyn-Z is the second bassist in our list, and unfortunately not as sweet on the ear as on the eyes. Legend has it that when she applied to join MSI to replace previous bassist Vanessa YT she knew she wouldn’t get in on instrumental skill alone, so instead blew fire across the room. But alas, we can only dream of what might have been with Lyn-Z after her marriage to the infamous Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance back in 2007.
Emilie Autumn – Emilie Autumn
The new queen of rock to many of us, Emilie Autumn has actually been around for a while, her first album coming out a full 10 years ago. Not afraid to bear all, as the above photo testifies, Autumn is also a classically trained violinist who as a child practiced a good nine hours a day!
Lacey Mosley – Flyleaf
Texan Rockers Flyleaf have Lacey Mosley as their lead singer and very talented she is too. Having been an outspoken atheist when she was younger, Mosley was persuaded to attend church by her grandmother, from where she became a committed Christian. We don’t know whether God had a hand in it, but we do know she’s very blessed indeed!
Cristina Scabbia – Lacuna Coil
The royal empress of metal, Cristina Scabbia has thrilled us all for a good 10 years or more now. Lacuna Coil’s awesome onstage antics and five studio albums have gathered them, and her, a huge following of dedicated fans and critics alike.
Angela Gossow – Arch Enemy
With a penchant for growling rather than singing, Gassow has become hugely popular in the death metal scene with her band Arch Enemy. On top of her ‘singing’ career she also contributes vocals to a character in the animated series Metalocalypse. Angela, if you ever do any proper TV, let us know, we’ll definitely be tuning in!
Simone Simons – Epica
One of the few stunning redheads of rock (alongside Paramore’s Hayley Williams). Apart from the rather silly name, this Dutch leadsinger has striking good looks as well as an astonishing voice. With powerful operatic vocals, Simons is a talent to be reckoned with in the world of metal.
Lennon Murphy – Devil’s Gift
Firstly Lennon Murphy is lead singer of US metal band Devil’s Gift, secondly she’s a saucy Suicide Girl penchant to a bit of naughtiness. A prestigious talent, Lennon’s skills lie both in being a metal front lady and also in her solo sideline of far more mellow piano ballads. Other than her name, there’s absolutely no connection to the famous Scouser.

This is exactly why people hate Americans. We are so ignorant to everything, including music. Looks does NOT make you hot, talent does. Amy Lee is cute, but she has nothing compared to Tarja, Simone, Sharon den adel…and the likes of those women. There is soooo much more out there than just Amy Lee and Hayley Williams! Challenge yourself to find trained, TALENTED women!

I agree with her beauty and vocal talents but when I saw some of my favorite female leads top this list like EA, of course, and Simmone, all I can say is great job choosing! However, I do agree with the concerned individuals with saying that Amy Lee should be up there if other mainstream individuals can top this listing! :-)

Sure they’re not metal, but they’re about twenty times more brutal than half of this list. Seriously. I was fucking shocked that Avril Lavine didn’t make an appearance on this web page, that is how un-brutal all of this is.
