Artist: Greeley Estates
Title: ‘No Rain, No Rainbow’
Label: Tragic Hero Records
Rating: 3/5

Summary: Arizona five piece Greeley Estates new record is a fun but straight forward ride.

Review: Unlike contemporaries like Devil Sold His Soul, who also produce a similarly doom-laden post-hardcore/metalcore noise, Greeley Estates stick to the straight down the line approach, steering away from injecting anything quirky into their chunky, thunderous tracks and going instead for battering your ears as much as possible, which in this case isn’t a bad experience all things considered.

Tunes like ‘Friends Are Friends For Never’ have solid drums, growled vocals and gloomy, heavy riffs which tick all the boxes if you’re in a certain mood but saying all that, much of the album doesn’t have a great deal of staying power or encourage repeat listens as there is often not a lot else going on besides.

Greeley Estates

Occasionally ‘No Rain, No Rainbow’ strays into more melodic territory – on ‘Jealousy Breeds Killing Sprees’ more complex and playful guitars help to bring in a more melodic approach with a mix of vocal styles giving a bit more variety. ‘I Shot The Maid’ has lyrics that make you prick up your ears slightly but again the formula is similar to the rest of the album.

OK, we’re not breaking any new ground here, however, this is not a bad record; it’s well played, solid and manic with super speed drums, great vocals (ranging between tuneful singing to death metal style growls) and it’s properly heavy, so a good all rounder.
